It was terrific. It showed how she really cared about natureIt is amazing that one person can save so many animals by just telling about a very dangerous chemical (DDT).

A great book which should be read by everyone!I think that this book is very informative on what we are doing to our environment. This book tells about Rachel Carson's life, family, career, and more. It tells about how she fought to keep our environment clean and safe for everyone. She warned people in her book, Silent Spring, which can also be found here on Amazon.com. Well, I cannot spoil this book! What I can tell you is that this is a great book which you should read.

Rachel: The Story of Rachel Carson
Published in Hardcover by Silver Whistle (March, 2003)
Average review score:

An inspirational story of a courageous environmentalistRachel Carson is most often remembered simply as the author of a groundbreaking book that initiated the modern environmental movement. Surprisingly, it is a picture book--traditionally thought of as trivial children's entertainment--that offers the most engrossing and insightful view into the life of, not just an author, but an extraordinary person. We follow Rachel from her discovery of her first fossil at age five, through her years as a student and biologist at Woods Hole Laboratory, as she writes her fascinating books about the ocean, right on up to the publication of "Silent Spring" and her death soon after. Amy Ehrlich introduces her to us like a good friend. She discusses the most significant years of her life with short yet informative text. Her captivating writing is accompanied by paintings by well-known jacket artist and picture book illustrator Wendell Minor. As he did with another recent picture book biography, INTO THE WOODS: JOHN JAMES AUDUBON LIVES HIS DREAM, Mr. Minor has managed to capture the personality of his subject with great accuracy and care. One moment we are sitting beside Rachel as she peers at paramecium through a microscope; a few pages later she is standing on a mossy inlet protruding into the sea under a full yellow moon. The illustrations are given as much detail and consideration as Rachel put into her books. Their beauty is just as memorable as is Rachel's actual story; at the end, one cannot help but feel their spirits lifted upon viewing the picture of Rachel gazing up at a flock of monarch butterflies lifting into a clear blue sky. Both the author and the illustrator have done a fabulous job honoring and sharing the life of this fascinating woman with readers young and old. If you know an aspiring young naturalist or have long admired Rachel Carson yourself, this book is worth treasuring. Although we have come a long way from the widespread pesticide use and careless environmental contamination of Rachel's day, there is still much work to be done. RACHEL is just the kind of book to influence someone to help and persevere with their cause, whatever that may be. Rachel's courage--from facing fierce criticism after the publication of "Silent Spring" and battling cancer--are inspirational and should ring true with all readers of this book. It's hard to admire Rachel without thinking of another pioneer in the American environmental movement, so check out the recently published INTO THE WOODS, about Audubon, as well; you won't be disappointed by either.

Radio Communications Concepts: Analog
Published in Hardcover by Wiley-Interscience (02 January, 1990)
Average review score:

Excellent for Receiver Design EngineersAlthough a bit expensive, this book very clearly explains the various topics and calculations related to the system level design of Receivers. It includes linear and non linear mixing, two chapters on noise, AM & FM calculations, and three whole chapters on superheterodyne characteristics, spurious, and the intercept point concept. There are block diagrams and schematics. The math used is mostly algebra and light calculus except for the chapter on special functions. The answer to most end of chapter problems is included.

This is the most fascinating book I have ever readI did enjoy reading the book. I found it very illunminating and interesting I think any researcher who delves into exploring the reading/writing relationship will find it appealing to his/her tastes. personally, It has shed me with light when I was in the dark not being able to find my way to my culminating reaserch. I trust that future correspondance between me and you will be established so as to voice my thoughts

Received in Grace: The Search for a Birth Family
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (September, 2001)
Average review score:

A genealogist's delightNorman Carson's saga is beautifully written; I would expect no less from a college English professor. His being, in addition, a Presbyterian minister did not prevent him from manipulating the beauracracy of officialdom in order to pursue the quest for his biologic family. The book has universal appeal but will touch the hearts especially of families with adopted children and the heads of budding genealogists.

Reward Bulletin Boards With Relating Worksheets
Published in Paperback by Carson Dellosa Pub (June, 1982)
Average review score:

Buy it!These are really great motivators for children and are well worth the price. Once again, the Carson-Dellosa team come through. I'm an American primary school teacher, and these motivators are commonly used in the states because they work. Parents/teachers will find them helpful, and the children will enjoy them.

Risks and Rewards: A Memoir
Published in Paperback by Howell Pr (September, 1996)
Average review score:

A source of inspiration and advice for all womenRecently I reread Julia Walsh's book, and found it even more exciting than the first time. Her ability to focus on what is important in life, and to overcome whatever falls her way is something for all of us to emulate. Her energy, competence and desire to share her knowledge with others shows through on every page.
Julia entered the brokerage business at a time when it was closed to women. She focused on her goals and was accepted for her knowledge and expertise. She did not try to become one of the "men."
In the last chapter Julia offers advice and encouragement to any woman desiring a successful career combined with a strong family life.

Great New Author!Wow! This book was totally NOT what I was expecting. I was thinking it would be just another ghost story book. Boy, was I ever wrong! I loved it! I'd like to urge anyone with interest in the occult to check this book out. And keep on the lookout for this Carson guy. I'm sure we'll hear of more great work from him.

The Sermon on the mount : an evangelical exposition of Matthew 5-7
Published in Unknown Binding by Baker Book House ()
Average review score:

It's A Pity This Book is Out of PrintAlthough this book is out of print, it is still "findable" and perhaps Amazon can track it down for you. This is one of the best expositions of the Sermon on the Mount that I have read. Carson is at his best in this book (and I have read several other works by Carson to make this comparison). Carson goes into detail regarding the words, structures, phrases, historical settings, etc. surrounding the passages of Matt. chapters 5-7. Carson is a solid expositor of the Scriptures and this book demonstrates how much care he places on interpretation. Some of the finer details Carson deals with in these passages are the phrase "Kingdom of Heaven," the dangers and necessity of being judgmental, religious hypocrisy, etc. At the end of the book there are several appendices which deal with critical approaches to the text of Matthew 5-7 and theological interpretations of the same passages. This is a great Bible study tool to have if you are researching and studying for school, sermons, or your own benefit, in regards to the passages that have come to known as the "Sermon on the Mount."
